About Ankle, Calf, & Knee Liposuction
Ankle, calf, and knee liposuction is a specialized body-contouring procedure performed to refine and elevate the appearance of the legs. While some individuals can eliminate excess fat through dieting, exercise, or medically assisted weight loss, these methods sometimes fail to deliver targeted goals. Ankle, calf, and knee liposuction uses a combination of ultrasound technology and gentle vacuum suction to remove fat from areas resistant to weight loss, creating smoother contours, better definition, and improved balance between your legs and torso.
About VASER Liposuction
Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance (VASER) liposuction is a variation of traditional liposuction that uses ultrasound waves to emulsify localized fat deposits before they are removed from the body. (1) VASER can help remove fat more effectively, leaving you with smoother contours and a tighter, more toned silhouette.
Benefits
Ankle, calf, & knee liposuction offers several benefits, including:
- Precise Fat Removal: Ankle, calf, & knee liposuction can remove deposits of fat found around mid-to-low legs that may have been resistant to dieting, exercise, and weight loss.
- Elevated Aesthetics: Contouring your legs can enhance your overall proportions, helping you achieve a more balanced and lean figure.
- Enhanced Confidence: Many patients report an improvement in self-esteem and body confidence after achieving their ideal appearance.
- Lasting Results: When paired with a healthy lifestyle, the results from your liposuction procedure can last for many years.
Candidates
Candidates for ankle, calf, & knee liposuction consist of anyone experiencing stubborn deposits of fat around their mid and lower legs. Those who want more definition or muscle visibility in their legs may also make suitable candidates.
All candidates interested in this procedure should be in good overall health without any underlying medical conditions that may affect their recovery or results. It is also important that realistic expectations are held. Patients should be nonsmokers or willing to quit using nicotine at least four weeks before the procedure. (2) Patients should also be at a stable, maintainable weight and have good skin elasticity. Your eligibility for this procedure will be determined during your personal consultation.
Personal Consultation
The first step to transforming the appearance of your legs is attending a personal consultation at our office in Englewood. During this consultation, you will meet with one of our patient coordinators to discuss your medical history, areas of concern, and desired aesthetic appearance. They will also evaluate the anatomy and fat distribution of your ankles, calves, and knees. The patient coordinator will use the information shared to determine your candidacy and start developing your treatment plan with your surgeon. Each aspect of the procedure will be designed to produce results that align with your expectations. You will also receive preparation and recovery instructions, as well as a comprehensive cost estimate for the procedure.
To schedule this consultation, please submit our online contact form or call (720) 372-2155.
Preparation
You will receive a set of tailored preparation instructions during your pre-op appointment. Following these instructions will help ensure a successful procedure and exceptional results. You will need to refrain from taking blood-thinning medications and supplements. Nicotine use should be ceased several weeks in advance, and alcohol should be avoided several days before and after the procedure. Transportation home should be arranged, and time away from work and other commitments should be planned. It is also advised to fill any necessary prescriptions in advance.
Procedure
For leg liposuction, the ankle, calves, and knees are commonly treated together during the same appointment.
Once the treatment area has been prepared, a tumescent solution containing epinephrine, saline, and lidocaine is administered into the targeted fat deposits. The solution is designed to constrict the blood vessels, swell the fat cells, and numb the local area, making it easier to remove the fat. Your surgeon will then make a small incision and insert the VASER probe, which uses ultrasound energy to emulsify the fat before it is suctioned out.
Recovery
Each individual’s recovery process will vary. Patients can expect to experience swelling or bruising in the treated area. These symptoms are temporary and subside on their own within several weeks. Our team will provide you with a set of instructions that will guide you through your post-operative care. Most patients can typically return to work within two weeks, but you will need to continue refraining from strenuous or physical activities for several more weeks. If you have any questions throughout your recovery, our team will be here to support you.
Results
Once you have fully healed, you will be able to enjoy the results of your ankle, calf, and knee liposuction. Your legs will appear more defined and contoured, enhancing the proportions of your overall figure. Many patients report an improvement in their overall confidence and find that certain styles of clothing look and feel more flattering. The results of this procedure are essentially permanent, as removed fat cells cannot return, but you should maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent extreme changes.
Corresponding Procedures
Several procedures can be performed in conjunction with your ankle, calf, and knee liposuction to provide more comprehensive results. These include cellulite reduction treatment and fat transfer, just to name a couple.
Cellulite Reduction
Cellulite is a condition that causes a dimpled appearance in the skin, often around the buttocks, thighs, and legs. This condition is caused by fat deposits pushing against fibrous bands of connective tissue. While cellulite affects many women at some point in their lives—80-90% of women experience this issue—it can cause self-consciousness or dissatisfaction with one’s appearance. (3) At our practice, we offer Cellulaze, an advanced laser treatment that targets the root cause of cellulite. This single-session procedure can help you smooth your legs for a more youthful appearance.
Fat Transfer
A fat transfer is a procedure that takes fat from one area of the body and redistributes it to another area to enhance or restore volume. Also known as autologous fat transfer or fat grafting, this procedure allows you to elevate your contours while also leaving other areas of the body more slender and toned. When paired with ankle, calf, and knee liposuction, our surgeons can remove the fat from your legs and place it into areas that could benefit from improved volume.

FAQ
Can liposuction change the size of my calf muscles?
No, liposuction only removes excess fat from the body—it does not address the musculature. This procedure is most effective for patients who experience leg and ankle fullness from accumulated fat rather than muscle bulk.
How long will the results of my leg liposuction last?
The results of ankle, calf, and knee liposuction are generally permanent, as once the fat cells are removed from the body, they cannot return. It is, however, important to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle as fluctuations in weight can alter the results.
How does contouring the ankles, calves, and knees differ from performing liposuction on other parts of the body?
The lower legs have more fibrous tissue, which means it is important to choose a qualified and experienced expert who can perform with a high level of precision and detail, such as our team of surgeons at Denver Liposuction Specialty Clinic.
Can ankle, calf, and knee liposuction help me eliminate the appearance of “cankles”?
Yes, by removing excess fat around the lower legs, liposuction can help create more definition between the ankles and calves.
Can I contour my ankle, calf, and knees while also receiving liposuction on another area of my body?
Yes, our team of surgeons can perform liposuction on various areas of the body within one procedure. During your consultation, our patient coordinators can provide personalized suggestions based on your aesthetic goals.
