SmartLipo is a unique two-in-one liposuction and skin tightening procedure that can simultaneously remove fat deposits permanently, and contour areas of loose skin. It addresses stubborn pockets of fat that can be tough to shed through diet and exercise alone. This versatile, minimally-invasive treatment uses laser-assisted technology to extract fat and tighten skin safely and effectively, leaving patients with less fat, a more refined silhouette, and increased body-confidence.

When we gain weight, our skin stretches to accommodate the underlying fat deposits. Although skin contains elastic components, everyone’s level of skin elasticity varies, particularly as we get older. So, when fat is removed through traditional liposuction, the skin can suffer and not “snap back” completely, even though the problem fat has been removed. The solution for many men and women with this problem is SmartLipo. It provides a combined treatment that offers patients a chance to fulfill their needs safely and effectively in one procedure, without the need for large incisions and stitches.

What’s Different About SmartLipo?

SmartLipo, known medically as laser lipolysis, eliminates fat through minimally invasive techniques, greatly reducing post-procedure downtime. Studies show its efficacy in liquefying fatty tissue, coagulating minor blood vessels, and inducing collagen production.(1) What’s more, the process actively promotes tissue tightening

It can be used in the following areas of the body:

  • Abdomen
  • Ankles
  • Arms
  • Back
  • Buttocks
  • Chin
  • Knees
  • Love Handles
  • Male Breasts (Gynecomastia)
  • Neck
  • Thighs

SmartLipo is an FDA-approved method that facilitates easy fat removal. Its laser energy rejuvenates structural components of the skin, stimulating collagen production. And, unlike other more invasive procedures, such as the abdominoplasty, this technique rids patients of fat without leaving disfiguring scars.(1) The SmartLipo method is considered to be a beneficial and efficient way for patients to reach their cosmetic goals. It has been praised for its simplicity, the quality of its results and reduced risk of complications.(2)

Is SmartLipo Better than Traditional Liposuction?

SmartLipo has unique benefits that may suit certain patients’ needs better than standard liposuction. A key deciding factor is the quality and laxity of your skin. Research indicates that patients with poor skin elasticity, must be forewarned about the possibility that they will have redundant skin following a liposuction procedure.(3) As traditional liposuction techniques don’t involve skin tightening, many people with skin laxity issues choose SmartLipo as an effective way to tighten their skin during fat elimination and reach their desired aesthetic goals.

Laser-Assisted Lipolysis

The goal of SmartLipo is to target and melt fat, but leave the surrounding tissues unharmed. At Denver Liposuction, we are proud to offer the most advanced care through the highest standard of medical expertise. Our doctors are experts in VASER liposuction and traditional tumescent liposuction technology, ensuring our patients have the best choice of service available. We will expertly assess your needs at a personal consultation and show you the ways liposuction can help you achieve the body contours you desire!

Candidates for SmartLipo

If you’re thinking about getting SmartLipo, you may be a good candidate if you have stubborn fat deposits that have not responded well to a healthy diet and exercise. VASER liposuction also a great option for people looking to tighten skin and address dimples and wrinkles in areas of fat removal. Candidates for any liposuction procedure should be in overall good health and not have any pre-existing medical conditions that could adversely affect their treatment outcomes. You may not be able to get liposuction if you:

  • Have a serious blood clotting disorder
  • Experience frequent weight fluctuations
  • Are clinically obese

Liposuction is not a weight-loss surgery. Patients should be at or near their ideal weight before their scheduled SmartLipo procedure. Denver Liposuction surgeons advise candidates who are not within 25 to 40 pounds of their target weight to undergo a healthy weight loss regimen before a liposuction procedure can be performed.

Personal Consultation

We perform every personal consultation at our South Denver location. Our staff provides a welcoming experience and invites patients to ask questions and get involved in the decision-making process for their treatment. In a typical consultation, you’ll be invited to a private consultation room to discuss your treatment goals. We’ll take a look at your prior medical history, the medications you are currently taking, and ask you some general lifestyle questions. To ensure liposuction is right for you, we will perform a physical exam. Once this exam is complete, we’ll look over your notes and formulate a personalized treatment plan. With a sound understanding of your unique goals, we’ll design a plan that will help you achieve your body goals.

If you have questions or queries about any aspect of the treatment process, or about liposuction procedure itself, please do not hesitate to ask us!

SmartLipo Procedure

Before your treatment begins, we will administer local anesthesia to the target area. Once the local anesthesia has taken effect, and you are comfortable, your surgeon will make a small incision in the area. During a SmartLipo procedure, the surgeon uses a delicate cannula attachment on a pen-like handpiece for the procedure. Inside the cannula, there is a laser fiber. They will carefully insert the thin cannula into the targeted area, and direct targeted laser energy onto the stubborn fat. The laser energy breaks the cell walls of adipocytes (fat cells), causing the fat to emulsify. This action also coagulates any points of bleeding, and causes minimal tissue damage to its surroundings. The laser will enable your surgeon to accurately pinpoint fat for elimination, and simultaneously tightens the surrounding skin. The melted fat is then suctioned away. Finally, the incision is closed with ultra-fine sutures.

Recovery & Results of Liposuction

Liposuction is minimally-invasive, so aftercare is straightforward. Following their procedure, patients can return to light activities just a few days after their treatment date. Denver Lipo requires its liposuction patients to schedule a ride home with a trusted friend or family member. In your recovery period, we ask that you follow these simple instructions:

  • Avoid smoking for at least four weeks following your procedure, as nicotine can cause bruising and may lengthen your recovery time.
  • Do not take NSAID medications like ibuprofen, as they interfere with blood clotting.

You can expect some discomfort in the form of mild swelling and bruising at the treatment site in the first few days. This is completely normal and should resolve within the first week of your recovery. Patients can also take doctor-approved pain medication to improve comfort levels. We may ask you to wear a special compression garment for up to three weeks to provide stability to the area and aid your recovery.

Permanent Fat Cell Elimination

Although liposuction removes the target fat cells from the body for good, our surgeons advise candidates to maintain a healthy lifestyle to maintain their results. Though future weight gain in the treatment area is less likely to occur, major weight gain may diminish the results you have achieved. With good eating habits and an active lifestyle, patients can enjoy a slimmer silhouette and tighter skin for many years to come.
